Muse News: Hans Zimmer Creates Song For Colorado Victims, KStew vs. Fans, Cloud Atlas Comes to Life in 5 Minute Extended Trailer

Good Saturday, Muses.

Today's post was originally going to be Part 2 of my "Most Anticipated Summer Movies", but as you can see, I changed my mind. So much has happened in the news this week, in particular the tragic shooting at a Colorado movie theater while loyal fans were watching The Dark Knight Rises, the final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy.

Who could have been prepared for the shocking, incriminating photos of Kristen Stewart making out with Rupert Sanders, a 41 year old married man, forcing the actress to make an embarrassing public apology to her boyfriend of 3 years, Robert Pattinson.

And move over Matrix, because Cloud Atlas has arrived, and by the looks of it, everyone is in for a treat.

HANS ZIMMER COMPOSES SONG FOR COLORADO VICTIMS

Everyone by now has probably heard about the tragedy that happened on Friday, July 20th. Fans of the much anticipated 3rd film in the Batman Trilogy piled into a sold out midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. About a half our into the movie, a masked man, later revealed as James Holmes, walked into the theater and threw gas bombs into the crowd and started shooting. The aftermath of this deadly massacre left 12 dead and over 50 wounded.

In the days that followed, stars of The Dark Knight Rises spoke and reached out to the victims in their own way. Christopher Nolan, director of the Batman Trilogy made a statement after canceling the French Premiere. He said, "The movie theater is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

Christian Bale who plays the iconic role of Batman, actually visited the victims in Aurora, along with his wife. He was not representing the movie studio, but representing himself and asked officials not to alert the media as it was not intended as a publicity stunt.

Hans Zimmer, the award winning composer of all 3 Christopher Nolan Batman movies, was deeply moved by the tragedy as well. In the days after the shooting, Zimmer went into the recording studio and composed a song in memorium of the victims. Simply called "Aurora", the song is 8 and a half minutes long. Zimmer said, "100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief Organization. Donate what you can." Donations range from only .10 cents to $2,500.

To download the song and make a donation, go HERE.

Do you think other stars of The Dark Knight Rises should visit the Aurora victims, such as Tom Hardy, the actor who plays the villain Bane? Let me know what you think!

KSTEW (Kristen Stewart) VS. TWIHARDS

I really didn't want to waste blog space on the whole Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, but there is one aspect of the whole drama that sort of fascinates me. Before I get to it, let me do a quick recap for those of you who have been living under a rock.

Kristen Stewart, the 22 year old actress who shot to fame after taking on the beloved role as Bella Swan in the insanely popular Twilight Saga has been in a committed, 3 year relationship with 26 year old actor Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen, the dreamy, tortured vampire that has become every fangirl's wet dream (young and old). It seemed like a match made in heaven, Kristen and Rob, nicknamed "Robsten" by fans, took their onscreen love affair off screen, becoming one of the most popular and much talked about couples in the world.

Earlier this week came shocking rumors that Kristen had been caught cheating on Rob and US Weekly had the pictures to prove it. And boy did rumor become fact with a quickness. Not only were the photos clear as day, showing Kristin in a very intimate embrace by her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, but it didn't take her long to go public. In a public statement, she said, "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Not to place all the blame on Kristen as most people do when it is a woman that has cheated, let's not forget about Rupert Sanders who is not only 41 years old which makes him 19 years her senior, but the fact that he is a married man and a father of 2 children. Some people think Sanders took advantage of Kristen since he is much older. I will leave that debate up for you to decide.

What fascinates me are the fans of the Twilight Saga. Twihards are livid with Kristen Stewart. Many fans vented their anger and heartbreak by taking to their twitter and blogs. Hundreds of fans posted youtube videos of themselves, some crying, some screaming, absolutely heart broken over the news of KStew's infidelity. How could she cheat on Edward Cull---er...Robert Pattinson?

And that is where the lines blur together. Most fans can't see the difference between the characters they have come to love and the actors that have taken on the roles. And because of this, I wonder if this is going to not only affect box office numbers when Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits theaters in November, but how long Twihards will hold their grudge. Afterall, majority of her fans are Twihards and I can't help but be curious to see how this affects her career as an actress.

What do you think? Do you think that her "moment of indiscretion" will affect Breaking Dawn's box office numbers in November? For the good or bad? How about her future as an actress?

BEST-SELLING NOVEL, Cloud Atlas, COMES TO LIFE IN MIND BLOWING NEW MOVIE TRAILER

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet as I can't even begin to try summarizing this book-to-movie adaptation. Just know that this is probably the most ambitious project to date, since the book itself can't be put into just one category. Here is a quick synopsis of the Cloud Atlas, the novel by award winning author David Mitchell, courtesy of goodreads.com:

A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation -- the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.

In his captivating third novel, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of language, genre and time to offer a meditation on humanity’s dangerous will to power, and where it may lead us.

Who in their right mind would want to tackle such a premise and who would want to star in such a risky project? I guess it only makes sense that the creators of The Matrix, the Wachowskis, and the director of Run Lola Run, Tom Tykwer, would make it their own baby.

The movie's storyline, courtesy of imdb.com: An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Who's starring? A whole crap load of actors! Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, etc., etc.

A few days ago, apple itunes released an extended first look at Cloud Atlas. Almost 6 minutes long, the trailer helps us to understand the plot better than a normal 2 minute trailer would as well as showcasing beautiful images and special effects to wet our appetites.

Check it out for yourself below!

So what do you think? Have you read David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas? If not, would you still go see it? Cloud Atlas hits theaters this October 2012.

  1. I didn't know Hans Zimmer made a song for the Colorado victims. I love his work, so I'm definitely going to iTunes to download this song. It's so great that the proceeds all go to charity. And Cloud Atlas? I've been trying to figure out what this movie is all about, haha. I need to read the book before I see the movie.

    1. Hi Becky!

Haha, I know! Cloud Atlas is a very complex book which is why I was nervous that someone was taking it on and trying to make a movie out of it. But the trailer looks amazing so I think it is going to be a success :) I'm just not sure it is for everyone!

I love Hans Zimmer too! He creates some of the most amazing music! I absolutely love The Last Samurai soundtrack :)

I'll be stopping by your blog sometime today. Thanks for stopping by!

      Best,
      Mia

  2. Hi Mia. I'm a fan of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - but not a 'die-hard fan'. ;) But when I heard this news about Kristen cheating, it really caught my attention. I even (I admit) read all the Yahoo! news about them - the one Rob packing up his things, and of course, the one Kristen admitting that it's true. I didn't want to believe it as well. I was actually asking (and a good point from Nutty Madam) "Why would you do this in broad daylight?" And did she really think that no one is around to take a picture?

I am not judging. I am just fascinated - I mean, if this is a publicity stunt, they definitely got their fans' (even the people who didn't really care for the movie) attention, which I think can be a double-sided blade.

  3. I think it was really nice of Bale to visit the victims!

Some people take Twilight way to seriously. It amazed me that she was able of cheating since she portrays this image of innosence that won't kill a mosquito...
But then again, wasn't she with a boyfriend when she starting filming Twilight and hanging out with Edward - I mean, Robert? So there it goes, once a cheater always a cheater...

I think this was really bad timing on her part becaue the last movie is coming out and given that some fans can't separate between reality and fiction it will probably affect the movie.
